Purpose and
Criteria of ISAC
- Provide advice, support and problem solving – use collective
expertise to solve problems and issues brought to the committee by
staff and subcontractors. For example:
- Develop new policies or procedures to improve service operations.
- Assist with issues by research, contact with other service
providers and sharing experiences.
- Identify and develop new services to fill service gaps –
staff or committee members can bring ideas about how to enhance services.
For example:
- Expand to new geographic area
- Add different communication technology
- Identify training issues and ideas – staff or committee members
can bring up areas of skill training for interpreters or Deaf and
hard of hearing consumers. For example:
- Workshop ideas such as “How to advocate for an interpreter”
- New formats like study groups or mentoring
- CEU programs
- Review grievances and complaints – the committee may be part
of a grievance procedure. For example:
- Complaint or grievance is directed to either the IRD Manager
or the Executive Director.
- If not satisfied with the response, the person with the complaint
goes to the committee.
- If the committee supports the staff, the complaint ends there.
If the committee and staff disagree, the complaint goes to the
DHCC Board.
