Walk4Hearing
DHCC, who was a proud sponsor for the Walk4Hearing, had a blast participating
in the PA Walk4Hearing on May 12th, 2007. Last year we had 10 people
on our team. This year, our team, DHCC United, recruited over 20 people!
We also had to raise our team goal more than three times!! All the money
we raised went to HLAA at the national and local levels.
Thank you all for your support and/or donation on behalf of DHCC United.
We hope you will join us again next year!

DHCC’s
35th Anniversary Celebration a Success!
On March 25, 2007, DHCC celebrated 35 years of excellence with 140 friends
at the Springfield Country Club. We used the theme of “Spring”
which is a time of hope, growth and renewal. Filmon Mebrahtu, a former
DHCC employee, was gracious enough to make us a DVD that combined the
four past anniversary videos. This seemed to be a big hit as many people
gathered around to watch it and remember former celebrations. Look for
information below to get a copy of the DVD!
We also used the event to look back at “Then” and forward
to “Now”. There were many people who spoke beautifully about
the history of DHCC and how DHCC affected their lives. Those who spoke
were Lillian Hoshauer, April Nelson, Doris Stettler, Jane Pulver, Dan
Dalton, Toni Szarek and Barbara Yago. Their presentations were uplifting
and informative to people who are new to DHCC. They really showed how
DHCC started and how the mission has been carried out through the years.
Iris Boshes, Executive Director, presented awards to some very deserving
people. The Lillian Hoshauer Award was presented to Beth Vail for her
contribution toward improving communication access. She has served as
a Camp Tom-Tom counselor, computer trainer, sign language instructor,
emergency service interpreter and general advocate for Deaf and hard
of hearing people’s rights. The Board Appreciation Award was presented
to Marilyn Conwell by the last anniversary’s recipient, Fred Nielsen.
The Generosity Award went to Mary Hesser for giving to DHCC unselfishly
in so many ways. The Unsung Hero Award was given to Greta Thomson who
has helped DHCC since the beginning and has asked nothing in return.
In addition, instead of giving away door prizes as we had done in the
past, we had a very successful Silent Auction! We were so pleased to
have over 80 items donated for the auction. Our top sellers were 3 packages
of Phillies tickets and a Ryan Howard autographed baseball!!!
If you would like a copy of the compilation DVD
that was shown at the celebration, please contact Dawn Ann Duboski at
dawnannd@dhcc.org (prefer method
of contact) or 610-604-0450 (tty/v). The cost for the DVD is $12 plus
the cost of shipping.
